ARTIST STATEMENT
AT LIGHT'S EDGE is a series of landscape imagery focusing on the precarious relationship humans maintain with the natural environment. Since the advent of the Industrial Revolution, the Western pursuit to conquer and control the natural seems increasingly successful. Yet, a pervasive sense of alienation has led artists, beginning with the Romantic movement, to seek out the sublime or divine in Nature. No amount of poetic idealization or industrial oppression however has changed the fact that Nature still rules our lives. In fact, industrialization serves to make Nature more dangerous, and yet, more enticing. In my photographs, the paradox plays out, portraying Nature as sublime, gorgeous and menacing.
